| We drove from Johannesburg to Inhambane via Maputo just before christmas. We were plesently supprised at how good the roads are now. Between Joburg and Inhambane, the only potholes we experienced were in the town of Maputo and Inhambane but that was short lived. But just as you leave to go north from Xai Xai there is a very bad stretch of potholes that lasts for about 60km.
Besides this 60km after Xai Xai I would say the road was fantastic, easy to drive and easy to pass slower traffic. Well done mozambique road department. | | Back to top | |

| I have to agree with Anna. Besides the few bad patched in the major towns and the bit after Xai Xai, the road through Mozambique was an absolute pleasure to drive on. I drove from Gauteng to Inhambane in a very relaxed 15 hours. For the people who like a bit of speed, almost every town had a police presence and were often pulling cars over for routine checks and I noticed a few police with speed trapping equipment.
So my advice is, take it easy and relaxed, it's now not such a hard drive.
Being the webmaster for Pomene.com does not make me an expert on Pomene. Yes I do have access to lots of the inside information on Pomene but I live in South Africa and I rely on information passed on to me by others.
I am a professional photographer and I spend a lot of time photographing Mozambique lodges and resorts.
