I am am planning to honeymoon at Pomene Lodge in June. I am thinking of driving from Pietermaritzburg, through Swaziland, and on to Pomene. If anyone has any tips for this route e.g. how long it will take, where to stay overnight etc it would be greatly appreciated. I am doing the trip in a 2x4 (Volvo C30) and intend to leave the car at Pomene View.

Hi, My girlfriend and I visited Pomene last in December 2007. The last bit of road to the lodge would need a 4x4. Leaving your car at View would be great but without a 4x4 you would not be able to make trips to the Old Hotel, which is stunning. You can also get a permit from the lodge to drive on the beach from the lodge to the river mouth, so again you need a 4x4. I chartered the resorts boat and did a day deep sea fishing and caught and released some really nice fish. Zambia reef was excellent.
When travelling through swaziland, use the Goba border, quick and shorter. Overnight at Casa Lisa. The EN1 road is good all the way. Mail me on jreddy95@gmail should you require anymore advise or call me on 084522120.
Happy trip
